Zoko Members - Making Their Own Pizzas!

If there is one thing we have learned from being in the dinner party business, it’s that the best parties aren’t thrown by just one person.  Why do you think potlucks are so popular?

In fact bringing a few people to the table (pardon the pun) to help throw a party can make a dinner party better for the guests and a lot more fun to throw.
Here are three reasons why:

1. It Makes the Boring Parts of Throwing a Dinner Party Fun
If you plan it right, all the tedious parts of a party – setting up your place, cooking the food, and cleaning up – become a great time to catch up with friends and enjoy each other’s company (maybe even have a glass of wine?).

2. No One is Good at Every Part of Throwing a Dinner Party
Some people are just amazing cooks, other LOVE to pick out the drinks.  Some people have great taste in music and love to share it.  Others don’t mind doing the dishes (make friends with these people – trust us).  Bringing people together who have complimentary skills means people are contributing in ways that match up with their strengths – that means a better experience for everyone.

If you actually think you are better than all your friends at every part of throwing a party (we know you folks are out there) take this principle from economics to heart.

3. No One Wins When the Host is Stressed
If your guests see you stressed out, they will feel uneasy or even guilty.  If, on the other hand, you throw a party with friends, you’ll naturally be focusing on the part of the party that suits you (the least stressful part for you) and will be leaving the things that scare you to your capable friends.  Plus, in a collaborative effort, you will be having fun before most of the guests even show up, which will calm your nerves.

Finally instead of feeling solely responsible for everyone’s enjoyment, you will be part of a group effort to create an enjoyable experience.  Teamwork feels good doesn’t it?

Stay tuned for our next post on how to actually plan a collaborative dinner party!
